WTMA Services
The Wet Tropics Management Authority promotes community involvement in management of the World Heritage Area and produces a large range of information for the general community and, in particular, schools visitors and landholders. Most products are available on our website, and many are available from the Authority in Cairns or at local Wet Tropics visitor centre for a small donation.
Permit applications
The Authority is responsible for deciding on permit applications under the Wet Tropics Management Plan 1998. You can get more information about the plan and zoning schemes on our legislation page, and about permit applications on ourpermits page.You can also see World Heritage Area boundary maps and zoning maps in our maps section. If you have any permit queries please contact the Authority by email or on 07 4052 0555.
Committees and advisory groups
The Authority's Board appoints community members to a range of statutory committees and advisory groups. These groups represent a broad range of stakeholders including scientists, conservation groups, the tourism industry, Rainforest Aboriginal people, World Heritage neighbours and the broader community. Publications and education
The Authority's publications are available in our media, news and publications section. Browse through the many publications, including books, brochures, stickers, magazines, DVDs, CDs, postcards and, of course, this website.
There is also a raft of varied educational information in our students and teachers section, including the massive Rainforest Explorer (also available as a CD-ROM form the Authority). Resources include photos, fact sheets, newspaper articles and tropical topics.

Department of Environment and Resource Management
Administratively the Authority is a unit within the Queensland Government Department of Environment and Resource Management (DERM). As part of the Queensland public sector, the Authority is subject to established public sector legislation, regulations, standards and guidelines governing administrative functions and arrangements. The Director- General of the DERM is the accountable officer for the Authority under the Financial Administration and Audit Act 1997. The Authority is responsible to the Director-General regarding compliance with State Government administrative and financial standards.
