Wet Tropics Small Grant aids tourism venture

A Wet Tropics Small Grant has helped Traditional Owners realise their dream of hosting cultural heritage tours at Lake Eacham.

The Ngadjon-Jii people were successful recipients of a Wet Tropics Small Grant in 2014 and, with the help of the Authority, have established the Yamini Wiinggina Aboriginal Tours.

Traditional Owner and Elder Eliza Morta, launched the venture at a tourism forum at Lake Eacham in late February.

The tours offer visitors a unique opportunity to learn about Ngadjon jii language, use of traditional bush tucker and the stories of their ancestors.

Wet Tropics staff supported Ngadjon with logos, uniform design and advertising collateral. They organised professional development opportunities to Eliza and the Yamini Wiinggina team and provided familiarisation to the Mossman Gorge Visitor Centre, in-house training about basic book keeping, computer training and webpage design.
